Fire Door Compliance Hub + Inc Certification

This hub provides core fire door compliance information, certification guidance, and practical checklists to support correct specification, installation, and maintenance in line with UK fire safety regulations.

Certification and Standards
(Core Compliance)

Fire door performance relies on independent testing, third-party certification, and compliance with recognised UK standards. The following certifications and regulations underpin compliant fire door manufacture, supply, installation, and ongoing maintenance.

Certifications

BM TRADA Q-Mark
  • Covers third-party certification of fire door sets and manufacturing processes
  • Confirms that products are regularly audited and consistently produced to tested standards
  • Applies where a fire door set is supplied under BM TRADA Q-Mark certification
Certifire
  • Independent certification scheme for passive fire protection products
  • Provides evidence that fire doors have been tested, assessed, and are subject to ongoing surveillance
  • Applies to fire door sets supplied within the scope of a valid Certifire certificate
IFC Certification
  • Third-party certification covering fire doors, components, and installation schemes
  • Demonstrates compliance through testing, assessment, and factory production control
  • Applies where fire doors and assemblies are supplied or installed under IFC certification

Third-Party Certification (General)
  • Independent verification that a fire door set meets fire performance requirements
  • Reduces risk by ensuring consistency between tested products and those supplied on site
  • Applies to all compliant fire door sets used in regulated buildings

Regulations and Standards

BS 476 Part 22

  • Fire resistance testing standard for non-loadbearing elements
  • Establishes fire resistance performance in terms of integrity and insulation
  • Applies to fire doors tested under the BS 476 fire test regime

BS EN 1634-1

  • European fire resistance test for door and shutter assemblies
  • Assesses fire performance under controlled furnace conditions
  • Applies to fire doors tested to the EN fire test standard

BS 8214

  • Code of practice for the installation of fire-resisting timber door sets
  • Provides guidance on correct installation to maintain fire performance
  • Applies during installation and site works for timber fire doors

Approved Document B (ADB)

  • Guidance supporting the Building Regulations for fire safety in buildings
  • Defines where fire doors are required and expected performance levels
  • Applies to new build, refurbishment, and certain change-of-use projects

Important Compliance Note

Fire door certification relates to the complete door set as tested. Substitution of components, alteration of construction, or deviation from installation guidance may invalidate certification and compromise fire performance.
